Journey Overview
6-Day Do Dham Yatra Overview (Kedarnath & Badrinath)
This 6-day itinerary successfully combines the pilgrimage to Kedarnath and Badrinath into one structured journey, starting and ending at the major gateways of Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun. The trip is characterized by long drives through the scenic Himalayan valleys and dedicated days for the challenging Kedarnath trek and the Badrinath Darshan.
Phase 1: Journey to Kedarnath
Day 1 is dedicated to the long, 8–9 hour drive from your starting point to Guptkashi (the base area for Kedarnath). The drive is scenic, offering views of the sacred confluences, notably Devprayag and Rudraprayag.
Day 2 involves the demanding 18 km trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath, tracing the Mandakini River. Pilgrims stay overnight in Kedarnath to attend the evening Aarti and prepare for the morning Darshan.
Phase 2: Kedarnath Darshan & Transition
Day 3 focuses on the morning Darshan at the Kedarnath Temple, followed by the descent trek back to Gaurikund and a drive back to Guptkashi for the overnight stay.
Day 4 is a major travel day (8 hours) as you shift from the Mandakini valley to the Alaknanda valley en-route to Badrinath. This route allows you to witness two more major confluences: Karnaprayag and Nandaprayag. Upon arrival, you take a holy dip in the Tapt Kund before Darshan at the Badrinath Temple, set against the backdrop of the magnificent Neelkanth Peak. An optional visit to Mana Village (the last village of India) is also included.
Phase 3: The Return Journey
Day 5 begins with an early morning Darshan at Badrinath, followed by a visit to Joshimath (the winter seat of Lord Badrinath). The drive continues to Rudraprayag or Srinagar for the final overnight halt.
Day 6 is the final leg of the journey, driving back to Haridwar/Rishikesh/Dehradun. The trip concludes with the opportunity to witness the divine Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat (Rishikesh) or Har Ki Pauri (Haridwar).
Highlights of the Yatra
The trip successfully covers the spiritual essence of the region, including the blessings of both Lord Shiva (Kedarnath) and Lord Vishnu (Badrinath), the demanding but rewarding 18 km Kedarnath Trek, and the sighting of multiple sacred Panch Prayags (confluences) along the Alaknanda River.
